When Doug Sheehan joined the cast of “General Hospital” in 1979 as the character Joe Kelly, it began a tenure of 207 episodes on the popular weekday soap opera that earned him a Daytime Emmy nomination. Almost as soon as his run ended, Sheehan became a fixture for primetime television drama fans when he became a regular on “Knots Landing.” There, he played Ben Gibson for over 115 series episodes. In 1986, he won Outstanding Actor in the Soap Opera Digest for his work on the show, one of three award nominations overall.
Over decades, Sheehan also had roles on the sitcom “Day by Day,” where he played the lead, Brian Harper, and on “Clueless,” the small-screen spin-off of the hit 1995 movie. Sheehan also made appearances on shows that include “Charlie’s Angels,” “Cheers,” “MacGyver,” “Columbo,” and “Sabrina the Teenage Witch.” He retired from acting in the early 2000s and lived in Big Horn, Wyoming, with his family.
