I’m so delighted that you are all back safely from the eagerly anticipated voyages to Antarctica. Based on all the social media posts I’ve seen; I would describe your collective energy as ‘joyful.’ I too share in your joy, appreciating the invaluable face-to-face experience that is such an important element of the Homeward Bound women’s leadership initiative.

You have collectively witnessed first-hand the transformative changes happening to our planet’s critical and unique environment. You’ve also connected with each other in an unforgettable way as integral members of the Homeward Bound global family.

I extend my appreciation to our dedicated faculty members who volunteered to join the voyages. For them as well, it was a long wait between expeditions and everyone’s lives changed in the intervening years. Your continued dedication ensuring that you could still make time for Homeward Bound reflects your personal commitment to our collective leadership journey and your willingness to go ‘above and beyond’ for our participants.

I also extend my gratitude to all our board members, who serve as volunteers, for their unwavering commitment and dedication. We had three board members on the voyages, Prof Mary-Anne Lea, cofounder, Jodi Schmidt our chair and expedition leader who led The Ushuaia, and Fabian Dattner, cofounder and expedition leader who led The Island Sky. The benefit of having these committed individuals in voyage leadership roles is that it will instil future Homeward Bound strategic decisions with greater clarity.

Please take a moment to watch this video, it’s a chance for me to connect with you on a more personal level and convey my heartfelt thanks.

On behalf of everyone at Homeward Bound, we wish you a safe and restful festive season after all the excitement of your journey to and from Antarctica. As your leadership journey continues in 2024, we anticipate a year filled with new opportunities for joyful collaboration.

Thank you. Best wishes to you and your family over the festive season.
